Meet Angie ’22

Hi everyone! My name is Angie Navarro and I’m a Senior from Los Angeles, CA. I am a Politics major, with a subfield concentration in U.S. Politics and International Relations, and a Chinese minor (at Pomona College)! I am also on a pre-law track. In addition to my role at the Office of Admission, I am also a Barista at the Motley Coffeehouse. I am also a Scripps Judicial Board Member! Apart from jobs and academics, I am a member of Café Con Leche, the Latinx affinity group at Scripps. I am part of FirstGen@Scripps, a program dedicated to helping first-generation students navigate Scripps. In addition, I am a member of the Questbridge Chapter at Scripps, which is also a first-generation club. Finally, I am in the Scripps Pre-Law Society and the 5C Fencing Club! In my free time, I like to hang out with my friends, watch movies, have a coffee at the Motley, knit, and ride my bike around the 5C campuses.
College was always my dream when I was growing up. As the first person in my family to attend one, I didn’t really have any established notions of what my college experience was going to look like. I had nothing to refer to. The one certainty I had was that I wanted to be out of state and explore living in a different region. However, when I sat down with my counselor and told her all the things I wanted out of college, all signs pointed to Scripps, a school that was only a two-hour drive away from my house. I trusted her judgment so I applied without really knowing anything about Scripps or the Claremont Colleges. After being accepted, I toured the campus for the first time. As irony would have it, I knew immediately that Scripps was the one! If I had to do it again, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I have loved my time at Scripps. Nowhere else have I found a community of such supportive, passionate people. As a first-year, I was blown away by the thoughtfulness of my upperclassmen and how willing they were to give us advice. Scripps students are all ambitious and determined to succeed, and they’re happy to help you do so too! I have never met a Scripps student that didn’t excitedly share about their latest project, academic opportunity, internship, etc. when asked. In fact, I wouldn’t have half the things on my resume if it weren’t for my supportive classmates! Moreover, Scripps provides you the space to speak out, unapologetically, and own your intelligence and capabilities. Being a Scripps student has helped me cultivate my confidence and voice, an ability that I have taken with me off-campus.
There’s a lot more about my Scripps experience that I’d be happy to share. Please feel free to ask me questions by sending me an email at anavarro3587@scrippscollege.edu.
