SCA partners with local schools to deliver the Middle School College Club, an organized series of workshops designed for middle school girls with the ambition of pursuing a higher education. Participating students must make a commitment to attend each scheduled workshop.
Most students enter the club with very little knowledge about college or the benefits of a liberal arts education. Through attending a series of workshops, students become both more aware of the unique opportunities available to them, and more empowered to pursue their goals. Students who successfully complete the workshop series enter high school informed of their options and better prepared for the challenge of applying to college.
Topics discussed during the college club series include:
- The importance of a college education;
- College admission requirements;
- Paying for college;
- How to choose a college;
- How to apply for college;
- Career options;
- Extracurricular activities and leadership; and
- A liberal arts education.
Additionally, college club participants are invited to spend a day on the Scripps College campus, where they are given the opportunity to meet members and undergraduate students, eat at the dining hall, and tour the campus. For many students, this is their first time on a college campus. Please contact Scripps College Academy for more information on how to bring the middle school college club to your school.
