Scripps-Pitzer Science Center: The Nucleus

Scripps College and Pitzer College have partnered to create The Nucleus, a new state-of-the-art 65,000-square-foot science center, opening in fall 2024. With your support, the $70 million project will equip students and faculty with innovative laboratories, classrooms, study spaces, community meeting rooms, and exterior gathering spaces.

The initiative also addresses the need for additional faculty and the expansion of classes and co-curricular offerings to meet student demand and increase the College’s capacity for cutting-edge, grant-funded research. Enriched by the College’s interdisciplinary approach to STEM, deep study of the humanities, and a faculty of distinguished scientists, Scripps is poised to advance the next generation of students eager to begin lives of scientific distinction and discovery within the walls of The Nucleus.

Project Features

When fully funded, The Nucleus will provide:

Teaching labs and prep spaces for study in biology, physics, chemistry, environmental science, and interdisciplinary courses
Student-faculty collaboration spaces, including meeting rooms, student lounges, study niches, and a computer lab
Outdoor courtyards and plazas
An art installation
New office spaces for faculty and laboratory coordinators
A rooftop greenhouse

Thanks to several generous donors, the College broke ground on this transformational initiative in May 2022. However, additional support is needed.
