Lara Tiedens was appointed the ninth president of Scripps College on June 21, 2016, by a unanimous vote of the College’s Board of Trustees. As president, she holds the title of the W.M. Keck Foundation Presidential Chair, established in 1980.

Tiedens was a senior associate dean of academic affairs and faculty member of the Stanford University Graduate School of Business, where she oversaw educational technology, executive education, case writing, and faculty development for the finance and marketing areas of the Graduate School of Business. In prior years as an associate dean, she led the PhD program at Stanford Graduate School of Business as well as its Global Innovation Program. Previously, Tiedens was the Morgan Stanley Director of Stanford’s Center for Leadership Development and Research, and she has served as an advisor for numerous Stanford leadership initiatives.

Michael Archibald

Michael joined Scripps in 2012, following 20 years at St. Lawrence University, where he directed two campaigns that raised more than $300 million. His primary responsibility areas center around relationship building and fundraising, and he is the administrative head of the $175-million Campaign for Scripps College, launched in 2013. He leads the teams responsible for alumnae and parent relations, annual giving and major gifts, and career planning.

Dean Calvo

Dean joined Scripps in August 2015 from Claremont Graduate University (CGU), where he served in various leadership positions in the Office of Finance and Administration since 2009. Dean brings considerable strengths in the areas of strategic planning and project management. His primary areas of responsibility include directing the College’s annual and long-term strategic operating and capital budgets. In addition, Dean’s areas of responsibility include human resources, campus facilities, grounds, dining services, the endowment, and risk and emergency management.

Binti Harvey
Vice President for Marketing and Communications

Binti joined Scripps in June 2014 from Caltech, where she served as director of institute marketing. Previously she held communications and management positions with the Pasadena and Los Angeles school districts, the cities of Southgate and LA. Her major responsibility areas include public relations, media relations, print and digital communications, and events, toward extending the college’s external reach and influence.

Charlotte Johnson
Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students

Previously the dean of Dartmouth College, Charlotte joined the Scripps community in August 2014. Prior to Dartmouth, she was vice president and dean at Colgate University. Her responsibility areas include all residential, campus life and student activities aspects of the college, in support of students’ health, safety and welfare as well as their pursuits of academic and co-curricular goals.

Amy Marcus-Newhall

Amy Marcus-Newhall was appointed interim president of Scripps in October 2015. She joined Scripps in 1992 as a psychology professor, served as associate dean of the faculty from 2000-2006, and has served as vice president of academic affairs and dean of faculty since 2010.

Denise Nelson Nash ’76

A Scripps alumna and long-time college volunteer, Denise returned to her alma mater in 2013 following a 16-year career at Caltech. Her responsibility areas include planning, coordinating, and implementing Board of Trustees activities; chairing the College’s advisory council on diversity and inclusivity; and serving as a key advisor on institutional policy, procedures, and decision-making.

Victoria Romero

Prior to joining Scripps in 2011, Victoria was associate dean and director of admission at Claremont McKenna College. Previously she served Grinnell College, the University of Nebraska and Whitman College. Her responsibility areas include all aspects of admission and financial aid services, as well as Scripps College Academy, a year-round college-readiness program for high-achieving, first-generation college-bound girls attending under-resourced high schools in the greater Los Angeles area.
