In the Media: Scripps Admission Director Gives Advice to Applicants

Scripps’ Director of Admission Laura Stratton was quoted in an article by U.S. News, “Pros, Cons of Writing a College Essay on Diversity.” The article focuses on college admission essays and the ways in which students can tackle difficult writing prompts. Says Stratton, the purpose of these types of essays isn’t for the student to show that they have resolved all of their problems, or to simply describe complex issues, but to showcase their personality and how they have grown from their experiences. “We don’t expect a student to be perfect – we just want to get to know them through the personal essay,” she says.
