In the Media: Betye Saar Honored at LACMA Gala

Betye Saar, John Legend, and LACMA director Michael Govan at the museum's annual gala.

Artist Betye Saar was honored at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s ninth annual Art + Film gala, alongside director Alfonso Cuarón, the Los Angeles Times reported. Saar’s works on paper from the 1980s are archived in the Ruth Chandler Williamson Collection at Scripps College, where her daughter, fellow artist and Scripps alumna Alison Saar ’78, has previously exhibited her work. “It’s really wonderful to be able to live your life doing what you love to do,” Saar said in her gala speech. “And that’s what art is to me.”
