Announcement: Vice President for External Relations and Institutional Advancement

Vice President for External Relations and Institutional Advancement

Announcement to the Scripps Community from President Lara Tiedens:

I am delighted to announce that Binti Harvey has accepted the new role of vice president for External Relations and Institutional Advancement. This follows an interim period that began in fall 2017, when Binti accepted the role of interim vice president for Institutional Advancement and vice president of Marketing and Communications after the departure of former Vice President for Institutional Advancement Michael Archibald.

A national search for a new vice president for Institutional Advancement was launched in December, led by Libby Roberts, vice president of Lois L. Lindauer Searches. A search committee composed of Scripps staff members and trustees was also formed to review candidates’ resumes, make recommendations, and interview finalists.

“Lois L. Lindauer Searches was honored to partner with Scripps’ search committee to vet a national slate of candidates,” says Roberts. “It was clear from our first conversation that Binti’s time as interim vice president reinforced her commitment to investing in young women, bringing Institutional Advancement to a new level, and helping Lara achieve her vision as president. Throughout her time at Scripps, Binti’s focus has been aligned with the goals of Advancement and, as vice president, she will be able to test drive new ideas and leverage her communications perspective. The future is bright!”

This new role also merges two divisions (Institutional Advancement and Marketing and Communications) into a single division that will focus on communicating the mission and vision of the College to all of our constituents in a manner that advances Scripps and realizes our goals. In her new role, Binti will oversee the integration of these two divisions and provide leadership in reputation enhancement, fundraising, outreach, and engagement.

As many of you already know, Binti is a seasoned leader and manager with a significant record of developing institutional strategies that have successfully advanced the College’s reputational and financial goals. Since fall 2017, the More Scripps Campaign for Scripps College has continued its strong momentum, gaining an additional $13 million in gifts to support scholarships, academics, and The Scripps Fund, and other critical areas. Among her numerous accomplishments as vice president of Marketing and Communications, Binti reimagined flagship College advancement vehicles to inspire constituents to engage with and support Scripps; oversaw redesigns of the College’s website and social media platforms, resulting in increased engagement among alumnae and parents; implemented an enrollment marketing campaign that rebranded Admission’s recruiting materials, translating the College’s mission to prospective students and contributing to historic increases in applications for admission; and established Scripps Presents, the College’s new public events series that has more than tripled attendance at Scripps events annually.

As the College moves forward in its strategic planning for the next decade, I look forward to the work already begun by Binti in her new role as she makes significant contributions to Scripps by leading it to new levels of engagement with its external constituencies and even greater achievement in fundraising and marketing and communications.

Please join me in congratulating Binti in her new role.
