Women’s Lacrosse To Host First Round Game Of NCAA Championships

The Athenas have been selected to host a first round game of the NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse Championships. CMS (12-2) will host Ohio Wesleyan University (10-4) on Wednesday, May 7 on Pritzlaff Field at 3:00 pm. This will be the first NCAA Championships game ever contested in the state of California in the sport of women’s lacrosse. The winner of Wednesday’s game will play at The College of New Jersey on Saturday, May 10 at 11:30 am.

This is the second straight season CMS has qualified for the Division III Championships and the first time as host.  Ohio Wesleyan’s only previous appearance was in 2005.  CMS was one of four independents to be selected to the field while the Battling Bishops automatically qualified by winning the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Tournament.

The teams have met three times in their history with CMS holding a 2-1 advantage.  They played at Ohio Wesleyan last season with CMS winning 14-12.
