Identity, Narrative, and the Construction of a Leader

Lay the groundwork for honest dialogue, community-building, and vulnerability through an introduction of key theoretical frameworks, intention setting, and the definitions of a leader. Explore the social construction of leadership in the context of identity, power, privilege, and meaning making.

    Introduce growth mindset (opposing a culture of perfectionism); identity-conscious specificity over faux universality (i.e., “woman” is not a monolithic construct); communal approaches to leadership that shift paradigms away from traditional/individualistic norms.

Day 2: June 24

Inside Out: Shattering Limitations

Attendees will gain an understanding of the existing barrier to women’s leadership and explore personal leadership skills and style. Acknowledge and shift internal belief systems and push against the status quo.

    Review research-driven seven-point framework to address the glass ceiling and introduce non-linear barriers to women’s leadership.

    “DiSC® is a leading personal assessment tool to improve work productivity, teamwork and communication.” Participants will hone in on their own strengths, assets, and liabilities.

    Participants will continue to explore strengths, assets, and abilities to work with those in other DiSC behavioral styles.
  • Deconstructing the Leadership Labyrinth
  • Re-writing the Self-Narrative
    Uncover the mis-beliefs that limit leaders from engaging more fully in all parts of their lives. Dive into asset-based thinking

Day 3: June 25

Values-Based Leadership and Strategic Interruption of the Status Quo

Align values with professional development skills and navigate individual and collective practices to disrupt the status quo to begin shifting workplace culture.

    Using the Non-Violent ToolKit, participants will identify their top values and why they are meaningful
  • Aligning Professional Development with Values
    Use negotiation as a tool for self-empowerment and systems change. Cultivate sponsors and mentors.

    Discuss ways to engage with and interrupt systems and structures that reinforce oppressive practices
  • Tools for Navigating a Toxic Work Environment
    Build awareness of the elements of a toxic work-environment and identify strategies to shift the culture and know when to opt out.

Day 4: June 26

The End is Just the Beginning

Participants will incorporate lessons learned and takeaways to emphasize lifelong learning and action commitments.
