Film Screening and Discussion: Rafiki

Selected for the 2018 Cannes Film Festival but banned in director Wanuri Kahiu’s native Kenya, Rafiki (“friend” in Swahili) chronicles the love that develops between two young women in contemporary Nairobi. Scripps faculty Michelle Decker (English) and Jih-Fei Cheng (Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies) introduce the film and host a post-screening conversation.
Presented in partnership with the Scripps College Department of Feminist, Gender, Intercollegiate Department of Africana Studies and Sexuality Studies and the Queer Resource Center of The Claremont Colleges.
