“Darwin’s Nightmare”

This is a picture of hell on earth: or more correctly, Lake Victoria in Tanzania. In the 1960s the Nile Perch was introduced into the lake. Amajor predator, it’s been eating the native fish out of house and homeever since. The fishermen, paid a pittance for their work, haul the fish into modern processing plants which strip the fillets for export and leave the dry bones and heads for the locals. And this is only the beginning of the appalling chain of human and ecological disasters which the fish trade triggers. “A moving and beautifully filmed portrait of the little fish living in the global pond.” – The Guardian
