Women Curators

Women have long been involved in the collection and exhibition of artwork and increasingly have the possibility of making important cultural interventions through the showing of artwork or documents that might otherwise become lost to public awareness. The panelists will address many aspects of curation, from the practical and professional
challenges to the grounds for the kinds of aesthetic and political choices they make in the shows that they put together. To what extent does being a woman curator influence those decisions? What are the roles of women in the world of museums, installation and gallery spaces, and cultural institutions generally? How does the work of curating make a difference in that world?

Participants:

Stephanie Barron, Vice President Education & Public Programs and Senior Curator of 20th Century Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art
Trisha Ziff – Trisha Ziff, independent curator
Susan Schwartzenberg, photographer and curator, San Francisco Exploratorium
