Share the Power of Gratitude with Scripps’ 2020 Day of Giving

By Emily Glory Peters

Expressions of gratitude are everywhere at Scripps. From the many scholarships honoring exceptional students, staff, and faculty to the beautiful buildings named in gratitude for devoted alums, trustees, and friends—each expression reveals how the act of giving gratitude has the power to impact lives for the better.

On March 25, we’re celebrating this collective power with Giving Gratitude, our 2020 Day of Giving event. During this 24-hour online fundraiser, all members of the Scripps community—including alums, families, seniors, staff, faculty, and friends of the College—are encouraged to make a gift of any size in honor of those people or programs at Scripps they’re grateful for.

To start the Giving Gratitude celebration early, we’re sharing expressions of gratitude from a few members of the Scripps family. We hope they inspire you to reflect on what or who you’re grateful for—just as we’re thankful for our generous supporters who choose to make Scripps’ mission of advancing women’s education their own.

“I am inspired to give to Scripps because of what Scripps gave to me: lifelong friendships, heightened self-confidence, a sisterhood of supportive alumnae, professors who valued my individual presence in the classroom, and courses that enabled me to discover my passions. I am proud of the education I received at Scripps and how it has helped shape me into the multifaceted person I am today.”

“I grew and changed a great deal during my years at Scripps, and I attribute much of that to the incredibly strong humanities core program we all experienced. I give back to my alma mater, particularly to the arts, because that strong foundation continues to influence and enhance my life in both obvious and unexpected ways.”

Mary Fraser Weis ’66, past director of constituent relations and alumnae relations at Scripps College

“Giving is the easiest way for me to stay engaged and show my gratitude to Scripps for the education and opportunities it provided me. I almost always give to scholarships because they made my Scripps experience possible—and as a donor, you also get to choose how to designate your gift to Scripps. Whether you give to scholarships, academic programs, campus enhancement and preservation, or simply to meet the College’s greatest need, together, you’re making an immediate and meaningful impact on our community.”
