Our National Leadership

Laspa Center for Leadership:

Transformation that will make Scripps a national destination for the cultivation of leadership. Transformation that leverages and supports the intellectual and creative brain trust of our students, faculty, and alumnae.

The Laspa Center at Scripps College has the potential to expand the College’s reach and recognition for developing dynamic women leaders in every field. The Laspa Center was established with a generous naming gift of $5 million by Eileen Schock Laspa ’67, P’95, and Jude Laspa HMC ’65, P’95. Through its core principles — leadership, creativity, integrity, and service — the Laspa Center prepares Scripps students to be leaders in their fields, developing and supporting future generations of women leaders by providing them with the relationships, knowledge, and skills needed to convert passion into action.

During the campaign, the College will seek gifts to secure the long-term future of the Laspa Center. Gifts will seed funding to initiate the Center’s programming. The Center will reside in the Dorothy Drake wing of Denison Library. This $8 million renovation project seeks a naming gift (separate from the program’s name) and additional support to complete the project.

50 Endowed Internships:

$5 Million

Transformation that will ensure every Scripps student’s education encompasses theory and practice.

Bridging the gap between theory and practice is the game-changer for liberal arts colleges today. Work in demanding real-world situations allows students to apply and expand the knowledge they’ve gained in the classroom—often opening the way for them to envision their path from college to career. The colleges that can successfully integrate their liberal arts missions with substantive real-world learning and experience will be at the national forefront. More than 80% of our students complete an internship now, but the vast majority of these internships are unfunded and constrain students’ options. If we can supplement 75 unpaid internships a year, more students could pursue quality internships that don’t pay or pay modestly. The College plans to leverage alumnae and parent involvement in providing and sponsoring internships through a three-way partnership between the Scripps Career Planning & Resources Center, the Laspa Center, and the Scripps Institutional Advancement Office.

$5 million in internship endowment will support 50 newly-funded internships every year, tripling the 20 to 30 internships the College now supports—internships that often lead to first jobs after graduation.

Help students make the transition from college to career.
