A Message from NEW Hall’s Anonymous Lead Donors

Though we have long watched Scripps College with respect and interest from afar, our family’s relationship to the College is a new one. Over the past year, we’ve had the pleasure of spending time on Scripps’ breathtaking campus, engaging with intellectually curious students, and meeting accomplished alumnae. We were so impressed with the quality of the Scripps educational and residential experience, that we were moved, quite unexpectedly, to make a significant investment in the future of Scripps.

Our decision to invest $10 million in a single institution was not one we took lightly. Before we made this gift, we asked tough questions of ourselves and the College. Is Scripps a good fiduciary investment? Is there clear, strong institutional leadership? Does the College continually strive for equity and excellence? Does the Scripps community adhere to high standards of academic and social integrity? Is there a real and urgent need for this project?

The answer to all of these questions was a resounding “YES.” We enthusiastically concluded that Scripps College is a most worthy recipient of a transformative gift.

We made this investment in Scripps because we believe passionately in the College’s mission, its leadership under President Lori Bettison-Varga, and the vision for its future.

We made this investment because we believe in providing Scripps students with a superb liberal arts education on a stunning residential campus while instilling in them the confidence and courage to lead and excel in today’s world.

We made this investment because we believe in residential women’s liberal arts colleges and the power of Scripps and the enduring difference it makes in the lives of so many young women.

We are thrilled that NEW Hall will return students living off campus to Scripps housing, alleviate residence hall crowding, and provide resources to ensure that future students enjoy the tight-knit, collaborative community formed and nurtured by past generations.

Please join us in preserving this extraordinary community, and consider making an investment in the future of Scripps College by supporting NEW Hall. By giving a gift to name a space within the building, or by making another contribution to the residence hall project, we can open NEW Hall in time for the fall 2016 move-in day.

Thank you, in advance, for your support of the future of residential life at Scripps College.
