“Sensing Grace Jones and Other Sensuous Ways of Knowing”

Dr. Uri McMillan, author of Embodied Avatars: Genealogies of Black Feminist Art and Performance, extends his genealogies of Black feminist performance, art, and pop culture to address Jamaican-born model-actress-muse-performer Grace Jones. Using a multi-sensorial framework, Dr. McMillan recognizes Jones within colonial histories of slavery and Black women’s objectification.
Uri McMillan is Assistant Professor of English, African American Studies, and Gender Studies, UCLA
