2019 Annual Student Leadership Institute

The Laspa Center for Leadership will host the 3rd annual Student Leadership Institute (SLI) this summer, August 21-23. Program content combines training and leadership development in a series of sessions tailored to engage student leaders in building community and enhancing  the student experience at Scripps. The Institute is designed with two primary goals in mind:

  1. Create a common leadership experience for student leaders.
  2. Provide opportunities for collaboration among student leaders. to connect with each other. 

Day 1 is a focus on self-awareness as a leader.

Sessions include a leadership self-assessment, Listening as Leaders, Leading with Empathy, Cultural Communication, and Inclusion & Equity as a Student Leader.

Day 2 brings leadership into action.

Topics include goals, project management, time management, creating effective programs, facilitating meetings and events, transition reports, and marketing basics. Students will also hear from past student leaders about their own lessons learned and network with LA-Based NPO leaders.

Day 3 puts leadership into action. 

With a focus on community, these sessions address partnerships, health and safety, peer support, and self-care.

Eligibility

All currently enrolled Scripps College student leaders are welcome to participate. Space is limited with priority registration reserved for Student Affairs student staff, Clorg leadership, and others who attend SLI as part of their fall training requirements.
