Olalekan Jeyifous, Nigerian American architect and artist joins us for a talk “Atemporal Futures: Immanence and Imminence”. His slide show/discussion will focus on his recent work on Afrofuturism. Olalekan has created large-scale artwork for a variety of public spaces. Most recently he completed commissions for the Durham SmART Vision Plan, a 50 ft-tall sculpture for the 2017 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, and 4 sculptures for Public Square in downtown Cleveland. His artwork often re-imagines social spaces wrought with a synthesis of both Utopian and Dystopian ideals as a means of generating critique, inquiry, and discourse around issues relating to the relationship between architecture, community, and the environment. This event is free and open to the public so please join us.
