Big Friendship: Aminatou Sow and Ann Friedman in Conversation

For many, COVID-19 has ushered in a renewed romance with the good old fashioned phone chat. It’s a way of connecting that bicoastal pals Aminatou Sow and Ann Friedman have made into an art as co-hosts of the addictively listenable podcast Call Your Girlfriend.

With Big Friendship, the duo give platonic love its due. The book is at once a deeply personal exploration of their relationship and a social-science backed case for the value of friendship in our lives. Writes the New York Times, “Friendship is a choice. . . [they] remind us that laziness in tending to friendships is dangerous, and that regardless of the circumstance, whether geography or pandemic, friendships must be nourished, or they will wither.”

Join Sow and Friedman in the technology of our time—Zoom—for a conversation on chosen family with Well Read Black Girl (and Scripps Presents alumna) Glory Edim!

Tickets are available here!

This program is supported by the Alexandra Fullerton Hampton ’42 Fund and presented in partnership with the Library Foundation of Los Angeles.
