Club and Intramural Sports
Not every sport requires a letterman’s jacket; Scripps women can also compete in non-varsity club and intramural sports like crew, cycling, field hockey, rugby, ultimate Frisbee, badminton, inner tube water polo, flag football, equestrian… even Quidditch.
In addition, the Claremont Equestrian Team, a five-college team of both competitive and recreational riders, competes in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association against teams from all over Southern California and Arizona. Students can also participate in the Claremont Colleges Ballroom Dance Company (CCBDC), one of the most successful dancesport ensembles in the country.
CMS Club Sports provide a recreational outlet for students in a less competitive setting with a minimum of staff and faculty supervision. They also create leadership opportunities; members are responsible for writing and implementing their constitutions, recruiting new members, establishing dues (as necessary), taking care of financial commitments, and publicizing activities.
The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges offer the following intramural sports for women:
- Cross Country
- Track & Field
- Swimming & Diving
- Water Polo
Claremont weather is conducive to outdoor sports all year long. The ocean, the mountains, and the desert are within one hour’s drive and the combination of these three environments offers unparalleled opportunities for outdoor sports, and Scripps offers a menu of outdoor clubs, including the Outdoor Women’s Leadership and On the Loose activity programs, the Claremont Colleges Ski Club, the Harvey Mudd Sailing Club, and the Claremont Colleges Cycling Club.
